WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

Paul Cluver Riesling is a compelling expression of Elgin’s cool‑climate terroir, where altitude, shale soils, and maritime influence converge to give the wine a tension and elegance that is rare in South African white wines. Its production — blending dry and slightly off-dry elements — delivers both vibrant fruit and a balanced structure, making it a collector-friendly Riesling with both immediate appeal and finesse.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: Fresh scents of green apple, apple blossom, beeswax and fynbos honey meld with citrus blossom and slate mineral notes.

Palate: Crisp and clean with lime zest, green apple, and a delicate interplay between racy acidity and residual sugar, producing a lemon-sorbet-like feel.

Finish: Long, mineral-tinged and elegant; lingering citrus and shale-derived complexity give it a refined, lingering aftertaste.

Product details

Paul Cluver Riesling comes from the cool‑climate vineyards of the Elgin Valley, planted on high‑altitude slopes (200–400 m) with shale-rich, mineral soils that contribute to the wine’s characteristic precision and lift. After careful sorting, the juice is gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel. A portion of the wine is fermented in large oak vats, while part of the fermentation is deliberately stopped to retain a touch of residual sugar, preserving the wine’s signature balance between sweetness and acidity.

Food Pairing

This Riesling is a wonderful match for spicy Thai or Vietnamese cuisine, where its natural sweetness and crisp acidity stand up to aromatic heat. It also enhances the flavours of grilled prawns or seafood tacos, and pairs beautifully with herbed goat cheese or chèvre, making for a refreshing contrast with its mineral backbone.
