TASTING NOTES:

Nose: Aromas of dried figs, toasted almonds, warm spice and gentle oak wood.

Palate: Smooth and rich, with flavours of caramelised dried fruit (apricot, raisin), walnut, and a hint of gentle wood.

Finish: Long and mellow, with lingering nutty warmth, soft sweetness, and a refined oxidative character.

Porto Messias 10 Year Old (Tawny) is crafted by Caves Messias from its Douro vineyards located on Quinta do Cachão. This is a blend of traditional Douro grapes — Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão. The wine is aged for an average of ten years in large oak casks, allowing slow oxidation that builds nutty complexity while retaining freshness. The alcohol content is around 20 % ABV.

Food Pairing

This 10-year-old tawny is very food-friendly for a dessert-style wine. It pairs beautifully with almond and walnut-based desserts, such as nut brittle or tartines, and works excellently with dried fruit, particularly figs and apricots. Rich cheeses like aged gouda or blue cheese create a delightful contrast with the wine’s caramel and dried-fruit character. It’s also a lovely companion to dark chocolate — especially pralines or chocolate-dipped nuts.
