FAT BASTARD PINOTAGE

WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

Fat bastard is special because it democratizes luxury. It takes the high-quality fruit of the Robertson Valley and packages it with a playful, unpretentious spirit. It is “Special” because of its Extraordinary Texture—it is intentionally crafted to be “fat” on the palate, meaning it offers a weight and silkiness that is often missing in entry-level reds. It’s a wine that doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet the quality in the glass is undeniably serious.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: An intense, fruit-forward bouquet. Expect an explosion of ripe purple plums and black cherries, underpinned by a savoury hint of roasted coffee and toasted oak.

Palate: Rich, round, and remarkably “fat.” The palate is a lush tapestry of blackberry jam and mulberry, supported by velvety tannins that coat the mouth. It is soft, supple, and incredibly juicy.

Finish: A long, indulgent finish with lingering notes of dark chocolate, mocha, and a final wisp of sweet vanilla spice.

Product details

The Fat bastard Pinotage is a “grand” expression of South Africa’s signature grape, sourced from select vineyards in the limestone-rich soils of Robertson. This wine is all about maximum flavour and mouth-filling texture. By utilising traditional fermentation and ageing on oak staves, the winemakers have amplified the grape’s natural intensity. It is a full-bodied, deeply colored red that prides itself on being “Living Large.” If you are looking for a Pinotage that is smooth, juicy, and packed with fruit-driven power, this “fat” little hippo is your perfect match.

Food Pairing

A wine this "fat" requires food with serious flavour. It is the ultimate companion for Sticky BBQ Pork Belly or a Double Wagyu Cheeseburger with bacon jam. Its rich, dark fruit profile makes it a natural match for Braised Lamb Shanks in a red wine reduction or a Spicy Chorizo Pasta. Because of its smooth, mocha-tinged finish, it also stands up beautifully to Smoked Meats or a Pepper-Crusted Ribeye. For dessert? Pair it with a Decadent Chocolate Lava Cake—the wine acts as a liquid extension of the cocoa.
