L’AVENIR PROVENANCE PINOTAGE

WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

L’Avenir is unique because it treats Pinotage with the same reverence a Burgundian winemaker treats Pinot Noir. It is “Special” because it captures the “Pinot-side” of Pinotage—focusing on perfume, fruit purity, and elegance rather than sheer alcohol or wood. It is a benchmark for the “Modern Style” of South African viticulture, proving that this grape can be as delicate and sophisticated as any of the great French noble varieties.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: An alluring and fragrant bouquet. Expect a “perfumed” opening of violets and dried rose petals, followed by mulberries, black cherries, and a faint hint of sweet tobacco leaf.

Palate: Graceful and medium-bodied. The palate is led by a vibrant core of crushed pomegranate and juicy plums. The tannins are fine-grained and silky, offering a smooth mouthfeel that is perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity.

Finish:  Clean, refined, and lingering. It finishes with a delicate trail of baking spices—specifically cinnamon and nutmeg—and a soft, savoury hint of cedarwood.

Product details

The L’Avenir Provenance Pinotage is a masterclass in finesse, often cited as the wine that converts “Pinotage skeptics” into lifelong devotees. Sourced from the cool, northern-slopes of the Simonsberg-Stellenbosch region, this wine sidesteps the heavy-handed extraction of the past. Instead, it offers a medium-bodied profile defined by its floral aromatics and silky texture. Matured for 10 to 14 months in a combination of new and older French oak, the “Provenance” (meaning origin) stays true to its name, showcasing the distinct minerality of Glenrosa and Oakleaf soils while maintaining a bright, modern fruit profile.

Food Pairing

The L’Avenir Provenance is a wine of balance, making it exceptionally food-friendly. Its natural acidity and "sweet" spice notes make it the ultimate companion for a Fragrant Cape Malay Bobotie or a Mild Indian Lamb Rogan Josh. Because it lacks the aggressive tannins of some bolder reds, it pairs beautifully with Grilled Duck Breast served with a cherry reduction or Seared Ostrich Fillet. For a simple yet sophisticated pairing, serve it alongside Roasted Root Vegetables seasoned with thyme and balsamic, which brings out the wine’s earthy, floral undertones.
