KEN FORRESTER PETIT CABERNET SAUVIGNON

6 in stock

R85,00

WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

This wine stands out because it offers a genuine Cabernet Sauvignon experience — dark fruit, spice, good texture — at a modest price point, making it a smart entry into South African Cabernet for both enjoyment and short‑term development. Its position in Ken Forrester’s portfolio gives it credibility, and the “Petit” label ensures it’s fruit‑forward and well‑handled. For collectors, it’s a pragmatic choice to explore the quality of South African Cabernets without the ultra‑premium price tag.

  • Platter: 3 Stars.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose:  A youthful, inviting bouquet of mulberries and ripe plums, with a spicy undertone and hints of cigar box and black cherry. Subtle notes of cedar and graphite may emerge with aeration.

Palate: Medium‑to‑full bodied, the palate offers dark cherry, blackcurrant and plum fruit core, with a savoury edge of cigar‑box oak, subtle liquorice and pepper spice. Tannins are present but smooth, and the overall feel is soft, rich and fruit‑driven.

Finish: The finish is smooth and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of dark fruit, mild spice and a clean mineral undertone — approachable now, yet able to benefit from a few years’ bottle age to integrate further.

Product details

Ken Forrester’s Petit Cabernet Sauvignon is part of the “Petit” range from his Stellenbosch/Western Cape operation — a 100% (or dominant) Cabernet Sauvignon crafted to deliver varietal character, freshness, and good value. Grapes come from duplex soils (fine sandy loam over clay base), and the wine is designed to be accessible yet with enough structure for modest cellaring.

For Collectors: While this wine isn’t tucked away for decades of cellaring, it presents a great opportunity for short‑ to medium‑term ageing (e.g., 3‑6 years) — allowing the fruit and structural elements to harmonise. It’s a savvy pick for those building a South African Cabernet range of varying tiers — offering quality, brand reputation and value.
