WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

Raka is special because of its Maritime Pedigree. Unlike the heat-seeking Pinotages of the interior, Raka’s vines are shaped by coastal proximity, resulting in a wine with higher natural acidity and “dusty” mineral undertones. It is “Special” because of its Artisanal Approach—the grapes are hand-sorted and fermented in small batches with manual punch-downs, ensuring a level of care usually reserved for wines twice its price point.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: An explosive bouquet of dark fruit and blackcurrants. As it opens, secondary aromas of red cherry emerge, intertwined with sweet spices, cinnamon, and a whimsical hint of ripe banana.

Palate: The palate is met with luscious, ripe fruit—think juicy plums and blackberries—complemented by subtle vanilla and spicy oak nuances. The tannins are polished and smooth, providing a sturdy structure without being aggressive.

Finish: A refreshing and balanced finish. It leaves a lasting impression of dusty, earthy notes and a final, savoury whisper of toasty oak.

This is a medium-bodied, meticulously crafted red that showcases the varietal’s versatility. Matured for 12 months in a sophisticated combination of French and Hungarian oak, the wine balances juicy red fruit with a refined structural backbone. It is an “honest” wine—unfiltered and gravity-led—preserving the raw, vibrant energy of the vineyard while delivering a silky, sophisticated finish that has become a hallmark of the Dreyer family’s winemaking.
