WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

Saronsberg Viognier stands out for its elegant balance of richness and freshness: the vineyard’s shale-influenced soils give the wine a refined minerality, while 11 months of lees ageing impart a silky texture and complexity. This wine demonstrates how Viognier, when handled with restraint, can deliver perfume, depth, and finesse — making it a standout to both collectors and lovers of aromatic white wines.

Product details

Saronsberg Viognier is produced by Saronsberg Cellar in the Tulbagh region, using 100% Viognier grapes grown on shale and clay‑loam soils. After harvest, the fruit is whole‑bunch pressed and fermented slowly: about 25% ferments with wild yeast and the remainder in French oak (500 L Allier barrels). The wine is then aged on its fine lees for 11 months, giving it a rich mouthfeel, while keeping its lively acidity and aromatic purity.  The 2022 vintage is bottled at 13.3%–13.5% ABV depending on source.

Food Pairing

This Viognier pairs beautifully with Thai coconut curry or Indian butter chicken, where its apricot‑peach fruit and gentle spice lift the creaminess of the dish. It is also a lovely companion to grilled scallops or lobster, and brings harmony to creamy pasta dishes or white-fleshed fish with herb butter. On the cheese board, try it with triple-cream Brie or mild goat cheese, where its floral and lightly nutty notes shine.
