WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

What makes Steenberg Merlot particularly compelling for collectors and connoisseurs is its cool‑climate provenance in Constantia, which imparts lifted red-fruit aromatics and crisp acidity, while its extended oak maturation delivers structural sophistication and ageing potential. This Merlot balances elegance and power in a way that showcases both varietal purity and mature craftsmanship, making it a standout in its class.

Product details

Steenberg Merlot is sourced from the Constantia vineyards of Steenberg Estate, where cool Atlantic breezes and decomposed granite soils lend clarity and minerality to the grapes. The wine undergoes careful vinification and is matured for approximately 15 months in a combination of new and used French oak barrels, resulting in a refined, structured Merlot that reflects the estate’s cool‑climate elegance.

Food Pairing

This Merlot is an excellent match for braised beef or lamb, where its plush fruit and soft tannins complement the richness of slow-cooked meat. It also pairs beautifully with roasted duck or game bird, especially when glazed with berry or red-wine jus. For vegetarian fare, try it with mushroom‑based pasta or a hearty ratatouille, and don’t forget mature cheeses like aged Gouda or Brie, which harmonise with its silky texture and subtle oak.
