WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

Tamboerskloof Viognier stands out thanks to its elegant winemaking and distinctive terroir: the high-altitude, mineral-rich soils of Kleinood bring precision and minerality, while the partial oak fermentation and lees ageing give the wine texture and complexity. The resulting balance of floral aromatics, stone-fruit richness, and refined structure makes it a sophisticated white wine that rewards both immediate drinking and moderate ageing — ideal for collectors who appreciate finesse.

Product details

Tamboerskloof Viognier is produced by Kleinood Estate in the Stellenbosch region, under the Tamboerskloof label. The 2024 vintage is made from 100% Viognier, grown on north- and northeast-facing slopes at altitudes ranging from 94 m to 412 m, in soils of Tukulu, Kroonstad, Klapmuts, and Witfontein.  After harvesting, the grapes are sorted, left on the skins overnight for gentle phenolic extraction, lightly pressed, then fermented partly in stainless steel and partly in French oak (12.5%) to build texture. The wine rests on its lees for four months to add depth.  It’s bottled at 13.45% ABV, with 3.5 g/L residual sugar and 6.0 g/L total acidity, offering a balanced profile and a cellaring potential of 3‑5 years.

Food Pairing

This Viognier is a natural match for perfumed Indian curry (think coconut and mild spices), where its floral lift and gentle richness balance the heat beautifully. It also pairs well with grilled white fish, enhancing its delicate flavours, or with creamy pasta dishes, such as a butter- and herb-based sauce. For cheese lovers, serve it alongside soft goat cheese or a mild triple-cream cheese to highlight its juicy fruit and silky texture.
