REVIEWS/AWARDS
  • International Wine & Spirit Awards: Silver
  • Tim Atkin: 89/100

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: Deep red with purple edges, this Cabernet opens with elegant aromas of red berries (think cherry and blackcurrant), followed by oak spice, cloves, and a hint of earthiness.

Palate:  On the palate, expect a full‑bodied wine with rich cherry and plum fruit, seamlessly integrated cloves, oak, and a touch of dark spice. There’s a nice balance between juicy fruit and structural tannins, making it approachable yet serious.

Finish: The finish is lingering and smooth — red fruit persists, supported by oak that adds subtle cedar and smoky undertones.

Product details

Zonnebloem is a historic South African estate, located in the Stellenbosch / Devon Valley region, now under Distell management. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from vines on south- and south‑westerly facing slopes in Stellenbosch Kloof, Helderberg, Jonkershoek, and Devon Valley. Part of the wine undergoes oak maturation in 300-litre French barrels, while the balance rests on French/Hungarian oak staves — giving a balance of fruit intensity and wood spice.

The wine is also vegan‑friendly.

Notable & Collectable Mention: Zonnebloem’s Cabernet history runs deep — older bottles such as the 1945 Cabernet Sauvignon are collectable and have appeared at auction, underscoring the brand’s legacy.
