WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

While positioned as an accessible South African Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine stands out for delivering varietal purity, solid structure, and reliable quality at its price point. It offers excellent value and versatility — well‑suited for both everyday enjoyment and lighter collecting. The sourcing from Paardeberg and Swartland gives a warm‑climate richness balanced by reasonably firm tannins and good food‑wine compatibility.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: The bouquet opens with mixed berry aromas and a clear note of blueberry, layered under delicate cinnamon spice. Expect aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, cedar and pencil‑shaving oak as the wine develops.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied, the palate features rich dark berry fruit (blackcurrant, plum) with supple tannins and supporting oak spice (liquorice, cedar). The structure is sound, delivering a good balance between fruit, oak and tannin.

Finish: The finish is smooth and lingering, with dark fruit, soft oak spice and a clean mineral‑tinge that gives it an approachable but satisfying conclusion.

Product details

Leopards Leap Cabernet Sauvignon. Leopard’s Leap, based in the Franschhoek/Franschhoek Valley region of South Africa, produces this Cabernet Sauvignon from grapes sourced in vineyards such as Paardeberg and Swartland. The wine is matured (in recent vintages) for around 9 to 12 months on French oak staves and/or barrels, enhancing structure and finesse.

For Collectors: Ideal for those building a versatile cellar that includes well‑priced, reliable wines with character. While not aiming for ultra‑long term ageing, it can benefit from 3‑6 years of cellaring (depending on vintage) to allow oak, tannin and fruit to integrate. A smart addition for value‑driven collections or as part of a broader South African Cabernet line‑up.
