WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

What makes Paul Clüver Estate Pinot Noir so compelling is its benchmark expression of Elgin terroir. The region’s cool climate, high-altitude vineyards, and shale soils give this Pinot graceful lift, purity of fruit, and refined structure. Winemaker Andries Burger’s Burgundian-inspired approach—natural fermentation, hand punch-downs, and thoughtful oak use—further elevates this wine into a collector’s favourite.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: Delicate aromas of red and dark berries (think cherry, redcurrant), subtle earthiness, and soft floral violet undertones.

Palate: Medium-bodied with bright red fruit—cranberry, tart cherry—plus savoury hints and fine tannins; a touch of oak supports without overwhelming.

Finish: Clean and lingering, with refreshing acidity and a graceful, silky tail.

Product details

Paul Clüver Estate Pinot Noir is made at the family’s Elgin Valley estate, where cool-climate vineyards (200–400 m elevation) and Bokkeveld shale soils allow slow, even ripening.  The grapes are hand-harvested and individually berry-sorted, then undergo a gentle cold maceration (6–8 days) before wild fermentation. The wine is matured for around 12 months in French oak barrels—some new, some older—to marry elegance with subtle structure.

Food Pairing

This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with venison, grilled duck breast, or game birds, where its red-fruit and savoury nuance shine. It also works well with mushroom risotto or a herb-roasted pork loin, and aligns nicely with aged goat cheese or a mild Camembert.
