Tasting Notes

Nose: An inviting and complex bouquet. Dominant aromas of dark cherries and blackcurrants are layered with sophisticated hints of cedarwood, cigar box, and a subtle black pepper spiciness from the Shiraz.

Palate: Medium-to-full-bodied and impeccably balanced. The palate is a lush tapestry of red berries and mulberry, supported by silky, well-integrated tannins. There is a savoury core of dried herbs and a touch of vanilla oak.

Finish: A long, elegant, and dry finish. It leaves a lingering trail of baking spices, savoury earth, and a final, aristocratic whisper of toasty oak.

The Alto Rouge is an iconic “Heritage Blend” from one of the most prestigious red-wine estates in Stellenbosch. Perched high on the slopes of the Helderberg, the vineyards of Alto benefit from the cooling afternoon breezes of False Bay, resulting in a wine of exceptional elegance. This masterfully crafted blend traditionally features Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Matured for 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels, it is a medium-to-full-bodied red that is celebrated for its structural poise and seamless integration. It is the definitive “Stellenbosch in a bottle.”
