TASTING NOTES:

Nose: The wine opens with aromas of ripe plum, black cherry and blueberry, layered with subtle notes of cedar, cigar box, mint‑herb and cedary oak spice.

Palate: Medium to full‑bodied, the palate presents flavours of dark berry fruit (blackcurrant, plum), soft tobacco leaf, liquorice and vanilla‑oak. The tannins are firm but approachable, and the acid keeps the wine lively and balanced.

Finish: The finish is smooth, lingering with impressions of dark fruit, cedarwood and gentle minerality. The wine’s structure and balanced oak integration allow the finish to persist in a pleasant, approachable way.

Product details

Produced by KWV in the Western Cape of South Africa, this Cabernet Sauvignon is part of the “Classic” range — representing well‑crafted varietal expression with accessibility. The bottle typically retails around R85 locally for current releases.

For Collectors: Though not positioned as a high‑end investment wine, the KWV Classic Cabernet Sauvignon is worthy as a value‑driven cellar component. For current releases, a reasonable drink window is 2‑5 years after vintage to allow integration of fruit and oak. For better vintages and good storage, short‑term ageing can add subtle complexity.

Food Pairing

Excellent with hearty fare such as grilled rib‑eye, roast lamb with herbs, beef casseroles, or mature hard cheeses like Parmigiano‑Reggiano or aged Gouda. Its fruit‑rich core and moderate oak make it versatile with both classic meat dishes and robust vegetarian mains (e.g., mushroom risotto).
