WHY IS IT SPECIAL?
  • The altitude and north-facing slopes create a microclimate that combines warm days with nighttime cooling, promoting both ripeness and freshness.
  • Alto aims for a balance of power and elegance — this Cabernet is not just fruit-driven but also built to age, thanks to firm tannins and fine oak integration.
  • It’s a flagship varietal from the estate and consistently performs well among collectable Stellenbosch Cabernets.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: Blackcurrant and dark plum are dominant, supported by cedarwood spice, subtle savoury notes, dark chocolate, and a hint of chalky minerals.

Palate: Rich, deep, and intense, with well-balanced structure and finesse. The texture is generous, featuring fine-grained tannins and flavours of black and red fruit, with graphite and a mineral edge.

Finish: Long and lingering — dark fruit, a whisper of spice, and elegant minerality carry through to a clean, polished close.

Product details

Alto Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Alto Wine Estate, whose vineyards are perched on the high granite and clay slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch, at altitudes up to 500 m. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (a mix of first-, second- and third-fill), giving it depth and structure.

For Collectors: This Cabernet Sauvignon is not just for immediate drinking — its structure and oak ageing make it suitable for cellaring 8–12 years, depending on vintage and storage. Over time, it will develop tertiary character while retaining its core fruit and minerality, making it a smart, refined addition to any serious South African Cabernet collection.
