Why is it Special?

What makes Baron Edmond special is its Dual Heritage. It represents the meeting of two winemaking philosophies: South African terroir and French “Savoir-faire.” It is “Special” because it is a Wine of Restraint; while many high-end reds chase high alcohol and extraction, Baron Edmond focuses on perfume, balance, and poise. It is a “Blue-Blooded” red that offers incredible ageing potential, often developing complex secondary notes of forest floor, tobacco, and truffle over 10 to 15 years in the cellar.

Tasting Notes

Nose: An aristocratic and multi-dimensional bouquet. Expect intense aromas of blackberries and cassis, followed by sophisticated layers of cedarwood, cigar box, and a delicate floral violet lift.

Palate: Full-bodied, velvety, and impeccably balanced. The palate is a dense tapestry of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and ripe plums, supported by fine-grained, silky tannins. There is a beautiful core of savoury spice and a hint of coriander.

Finish: Exceptionally long, refined, and echoing. It leaves a lingering trail of graphite, savoury herbs, and a final, aristocratic whisper of toasty French oak.

Product details

The Baron Edmond is the flagship red of the Rupert & Rothschild partnership—a world-class Bordeaux-style blend dominated by Merlot, with supporting roles from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This is a wine of meticulous selection; only the finest barrels from the most exceptional vineyard blocks are chosen for the final blend. Matured for 18 to 22 months in new French oak, it is a full-bodied red that prioritises elegance over brute strength. It is celebrated globally for its seamless integration, silky texture, and an “Old World” sophistication that makes it a permanent fixture on the world’s most elite wine lists.

Food Pairing

A wine of this pedigree demands a culinary stage of the highest order. It is the ultimate companion for Chateaubriand with a Red Wine Reduction or a Slow-Roasted Rack of Lamb with a crust of fresh herbs and garlic. Its refined tannin structure makes it a spectacular match for Seared Duck Breast with a black cherry glaze or a Truffle-Infused Wild Mushroom Risotto. For an elite cheese course, pair it with 24-Month Matured Comté or Aged Roquefort. The wine’s dark fruit density also allows it to pair exquisitely with 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate.
