TASTING NOTES:

Nose: Bold aromas of blueberry and ripe raspberry lead the bouquet. There are also notes of blackberry, cherry, spice and violet.

Palate: Medium-bodied, with juicy fruit flavours of black cherry, plum and dark berries. Touches of fruitcake, herb, and a hint of smoky bonfire add complexity; tannins are soft but provide a backbone.

Finish: The finish is smooth and lingering, with dark berry fruit, subtle herbaceousness, and a trace of oak spice.

Product details

Protea Cabernet Sauvignon is part of the Protea range from Anthonij Rupert Wyne. The grapes are sourced in cool-climate sites in the Western Cape, including Darling and Paarl.

The wine is fermented in stainless steel, then matured in older French oak barrels to retain fruit purity while adding structure.

Cellaring Potential: While this Cabernet is quite drinkable young, with good storage it can age gracefully for 3–6 years, developing secondary notes like tobacco, cedar, and dried herb.
