DURBANVILLE HILLS CABERNET SAUVIGNON

WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

This Cabernet stands out as a refined expression of South African Cab from a cooler‑climate site, which is somewhat atypical for the varietal in the region. Because of the maritime influence and selected vineyards, the wine shows freshness, elegance and good value. For collectors, it offers a chance to include a well‑balanced, terroir‑driven Cape Cab without the ultra‑premium price tag.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose: A rich bouquet opens with aromas of sweet plums, prunes, and dark blackberries, layered with cedarwood and cinnamon spice, and subtle savoury notes developing with aeration.

Palate: Medium to full‑bodied in style, the palate reveals flavours of blackcurrant, ripe red plums and rich cherry, supported by firm yet refined tannins and balanced acidity. Oak influence brings gentle notes of dark chocolate and vanilla‑spice.

Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, leaving lingering impressions of dark fruit, cedary spice and mineral undertones, with the tannins and acidity delivering structure and poise.

Product details

This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the estate of Durbanville Hills Winery in the Durbanville Wine Valley, Western Cape, South Africa. The vineyards benefit from cool maritime breezes from Table Bay and False Bay, enabling slower ripening and enhanced flavour development. The wine is matured in oak (typically French, with some older wood) and designed to deliver varietal purity with balanced structure.

For Collectors: While not positioned as a super‑premium, investment‑grade wine, the Durbanville Hills Cabernet Sauvignon is a very worthy cellar addition for value‑driven collections. With good storage, consider a drinking window of 5–8 years (depending on vintage and storage conditions) to allow the fruit and structure to integrate further. Stronger vintages may extend toward 10 years with reward.
