TASTING NOTES:

Nose: The bouquet opens with aromas of blackberry, plum and redcurrant, layered with subtle notes of bay leaf, tobacco leaf, cedar and pencil shavings. Hints of mulberry, dark chocolate and graphite may emerge in well‑handled vintages.

Palate: Medium to full‑bodied, the wine expresses flavours of ripe blackcurrant, cassis, dark cherry and cocoa, supported by firm, integrated tannins and fresh acidity. The oak treatment adds touches of vanilla, cedar and spice, while the fruit remains at the core.

Finish: The finish is smooth and lingering, with lasting impressions of dark fruit, tobacco leaf, cedar and mineral undertones, offering good length and a satisfying conclusion.

Product details

The Guardian Peak Cabernet Sauvignon is produced by Guardian Peak Wines in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa. Founded in 1998 by Jean Engelbrecht, the estate sources grapes from well‑contracted growers around Stellenbosch Mountain and related premium vineyards. The Cabernet is vinified in stainless steel fermenters (open and closed top) to preserve fruit, then matured for about 6 months in seasoned French oak barrels.

For Collectors: Though not in the ultra‑premium investment tier, this Cabernet offers excellent value and a place in a well‑rounded cellar. Depending on vintage and storage conditions, it is best enjoyed within about 5‑8 years after release, with some potential to evolve further (for stronger vintages) up to 10 years. It makes an attractive choice for collectors who want accessible quality Cabernet Sauvignon from South Africa.
