TASTING NOTES:

Nose: The bouquet opens with rich aromas of dark and red berries – blackcurrant, plum – combined with notes of cedar, cigar box, graphite and dried herb‑leaf (especially mint or cassis leaf). A subtle vanilla‑oak spice and tobacco hint complete the picture.

Palate: Full‑bodied with fine balance: the fruit core delivers ripe dark fruit flavours (blackberry/blueberry) while the tannins are firm yet elegant, supported by bright acidity and polished oak integration. Expect dark chocolate or salted liquorice notes on the finish.

Finish: Long and refined, leaving lingering impressions of dark fruit, graphite, cedary spice and mineral undertones. The wine sustains its depth without being over‑oaked or heavy.

Product details

The Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in Stellenbosch on the historic Meerlust estate, which dates viticulture back to the 17th century. This expression is a single‑varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, matured for around 16‑21 months in French oak barrels.

For Collectors: This Cabernet is worthy of a place in a serious cellar. Depending on vintage and storage, it will reward cellaring for 5‑15 years, though many recent releases are already showing excellent drinking windows while still capable of development. Consider it as a strong contender in the premium South African Cabernet Sauvignon territory.
